This little church was donated by Emperor Frederick I to the Teutonic Order in 1212/1214. Archaeological excavations revealed the remains of two earlier churches. The church tower, pregnant with symbolism and visible from afar, was spared from the alterations in the post-Gothic era in 1744 as well as in 1901–1906. St Karpophorus has what is arguably the most beautiful of all constructed Romanesque towers in the Vinschgau Vallley.
